Ancient traditions, new joy at Matill

“The sun wakes you gently and bright,
the birds are singing, everything feels light.
Sweet bread and coffee fill the air,
outside, flowers bloom everywhere.”

This is what your morning at Matill might feel like when spring awakens in full splendour. But what actually lies behind Easter? Beyond eggs and chocolate, there is a fascinating story deeply rooted in ancient traditions – the story of Ostara, the goddess of spring.

Ostara – The Goddess of Spring

Ostara, also known as Ēostre, was the Germanic goddess of spring, fertility and new beginnings. Her festival celebrated the return of light and the blossoming of nature. Eggs and hares symbolised fertility and new life – and these symbols can still be found in our Easter traditions today. Painting eggs, hiding them and searching for them – all of these customs are reminders of Ostara that have survived to this day.

Ancient Traditions – Spring Rituals and Fertility

The ancient Ostara rituals include not only decorating houses and gardens with flowers, but also dancing and singing to welcome spring. At Matill, you can still feel this deep connection to nature. Whether on a walk through blooming orchards or during breakfast on our sunny terrace – here, spring is not only visible, but truly tangible.
A particularly beautiful tradition that is still practised today is the Easter fire. In many regions, large fires are lit on Easter Sunday to drive away winter and welcome the sun. Perhaps you will experience the magic of such a fire at Matill – one that banishes darkness and celebrates life.

Easter at Matill – Tradition Meets Indulgence

Easter at Matill means experiencing these ancient traditions in a modern context. The fresh scent of flowers, the rustling of leaves in the wind and the first warm rays of sunshine are just as present as the enjoyment of traditional sweet bread or our delicious Easter brunch, where you can taste local specialities and homemade delights.
Whether you start your day with a cosy breakfast in the garden, enjoy the fresh air on a hike through blooming meadows or simply let your soul unwind in our SPA – Easter with us is a celebration of renewal and joy that you can experience with all your senses.

We look forward to celebrating the magic of spring with you. See you soon!
