Summer Solstice

There are days of the year that are imbued with a very special magic.

They feel as if time were flowing more slowly for a moment. As if nature itself were gently yet firmly urging us to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. To slow down, so we can focus on what truly matters. The summer solstice on June 21 is one such day. When the sun reaches its highest point and its light sweeps across fields, forests, and mountains well into the evening, the world seems to bask in a golden glow.

For centuries, people have gathered at this special time, lighting fires on the hills, telling stories, and celebrating the abundance of summer. The longest daylight hours of the year remind us to pause, feel the warmth on our skin, and appreciate the beauty of a moment that is as powerful as it is fleeting.

For the summer solstice not only marks the peak of light—it also invites us to reflect on change, growth, and the small wonders of life. It is a poetic symbol of the deep connection between the earth, the sun, and the cycles of nature.

Around June 21, here in the Vinschgau Valley, too, there’s an unmistakable atmosphere of flourishing in the air everywhere: just as the sunlight has been inexorably moving toward its zenith over the past few weeks, all of nature’s flowers, plants, and herbs are now striving toward their full perfection in abundance and splendor. Trees display their proud foliage in the dazzling shades of lush, fresh greens, while colorful seas of flowers enchant both foraging insects and sun-loving people with their delicate fragrance and summery beauty. Warm, light-filled evenings herald a season that has reached its peak.

Here at Matill, too, we are able to draw on the bounty of this season: Our proud organic farm spoils us daily with aromatic herbs and freshly ripened fruits and vegetables, which Hansjörg and his helpers carefully harvest by hand and then pass on to our hotel kitchen. There, the fruits of our harvest are prepared in a variety of ways by head chef Stefano and his team, ultimately landing on your plates as nutritious, high-quality dishes—for authentic organic enjoyment, just as our guests appreciate and love it.

And what about you? How are you spending your summer? Maybe now is exactly the right time for a short—or even a longer—getaway here at Matill, tailored entirely to your own preferences and wishes—whether you’re looking for an active, adventure-filled experience or prefer something completely relaxed and unhurried. We invite you to experience the power and beauty of this special season with all your senses: on hikes through the sun-drenched nature of the Vinschgau Valley, on balmy evenings under the open sky, during delightful moments with our organic cuisine, and in the soothing tranquility that comes from reconnecting with the rhythms of nature.

Let the light of summer guide you, create unforgettable memories, and enjoy the abundance of this unique time with us in your own way. We look forward to welcoming you here at Matill 😊
